Friday 2 May 2025--I have a look around Erieau this morning, then head for Leamington, where I board the ferry for Pelee Island. Pelee is the largest of a cluster of islands toward the western end of Lake Erie, and is the southernmost inhabited part of Canada. (There's a small uninhabited Canadian island a bit farther south.) Kiki's Westview Motel is almost directly across the street from the ferry landing. I'm deeply dismayed when my hostess (presumably Kiki) tells me that the Stone House, my first choice for a hangout, just a hundred yards south of the motel, is not open for the season yet. Neither is the Westview Tavern, my second choice, an even shorter distance to the north. I'm starting to feel panicky...I'm going to starve to death. I'm wondering if I can get off the island on the morning ferry. The local LCBO (liquor store) is open, and I pop over to grab a few cans of beer and a bottle of whisky. At least I won't die sober. The nice gent there tells me about the Dog & Goat, a pub three miles north, and I start to calm down. (To be fair, Kiki told me about it, too, but I lost it in the haze of panic.)
At the northeast corner of the island, I walk a short trail through the woods to see the Pelee Island Lighthouse.
The Dog & Goat. I like how the sign right in front of the place tells you where it's located. The place is all right—the menu is a bit limited, but I won't starve, and the locals are friendly.
