Tuesday 6 May 2025--Detroit from the Ambassador Bridge. I drive across the Mitten--the lower peninsula of Michigan--from southeast to northwest, to the town of Charlevoix, on Lake Michigan. As with most place names of French origin in the US (including Detroit), the pronunciation of Charlevoix has long ago been anglicized--the locals say "Sharlavoy". I'm staging for another morning ferry departure tomorrow.
