Friday 9 May 2025--I saw most of the island yesterday; today I see what's left, including the beach at Donegal Bay. As that name might suggest, Irish immigrants were the major successors to the Mormons on Beaver Island. Later, I relax and enjoy a dram back at my room. I paid a little extra to get the one room at the motel with a patio, which affords me this view across the harbor.
The taproom at the Whiskey Point Brewing Company keeps very short hours, 4-8pm Thursday to Sunday, which is too bad, as it's clearly the best place to have a pint on Beaver Island. The bartender, who I gather is one of the principals in the business, tells me they figure they sell as much beer in that time as they would if they were open all week from noon to midnight (and probably save themselves a lot of incidental trouble). I don't doubt it--despite the way it looks in this photo, taken as they were closing up, the place was very busy.
